TIM FALCONER is a magazine writer and the author of three non-fiction books (That Good Night: Ethicists, Euthanasia and End-of-Life CareDrive: A Road Trip through Our Complicated Affair with the Automobile; and Watchdogs and Gadflies: Activism from Marginal to Mainstream). He also helped popular parenting expert Alex Russell write Drop the Worry Ball: How to Parent In the Age of Entitlement. His next book, called Bad Singer, will be out in 2016. He began teaching magazine journalism at Ryerson University in 1995 and this year marks the seventh time he’s been the instructor on the Ryerson Review of Journalism.

LYNN CUNNINGHAM is the instructor on the Summer 2013 issue of the Ryerson Review of Journalism. She first taught at Ryerson in 1985, and served as a senior editor at a variety of magazines, including Toronto Life, Canadian Business and Quest. A recipient of the National Magazine Awards’ Outstanding Achievement Award, she won a gold and silver at the 2010 National Magazine Awards for her memoir “Cause and Effect.”

TIM DAVIN is the art director of the Winter and Summer 2013 issues of the RRJ. He’s worked on various magazines, including Canadian Business, Canadian Living, Chickadee, Chirp, OWL, Quill and Quire, TV Guide and Your Money, and has won numerous awards in both Canada and the United States.

VERONICA MADDOCKS has been the Review’s research consultant since 2005. She is Toronto Life’s chief of research and, under the name Veronica Cusack, she won the Gold Award in the Columns category at the 1996 National Magazine Awards, an Honourable Mention in the Travel category in 2000 for “Gloucester Then and Now,” and the Gold Award in the One of a Kind category in 2001 for her feature, “The Family Plot.” Her non-fiction work, The Invisible Soldier, was published by McClelland & Stewart in 2004.

CAREN WATKINS studied graphic design at York University and spent 15 years art directing and editing consumer magazines such as Chatelaine, Gardening Life, Clean Eating and Oxygen. Her agency work includes projects with Scotia Bank, TD Bank and Pollution Probe. Most recently Caren has been working on publication design and editorial direction, event creative and branding projects with Dalhousie University, Ryerson University, IFEX, Canadian Women’s Foundation, Canadian Olympic Committee and MLSE. She has 25+ national and international awards and is working toward her masters in inclusive design at OCADU.

In addition, editors from Canada’s top magazines—as well as high-profile freelance feature writers and editors, and other faculty at the School of Journalism—help students develop their stories.
