Photojournalist Peter Bregg Rubs Shoulders With Ben Affleck, Cast Of Argo, General Petraeus

Rumoured to be a top Oscar contender, Argo, starring Ben Affleck and co-produced by George Clooney, premiered in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, October 10 with a reception at the Canadian embassy. At the event, joining a slew of ambassadors and actors, was Peter Bregg, a photojournalism instructor at Ryerson University who had been invited to exhibit pictures he had taken as a photographer for the Canadian Press, covering the 1979 Iran revolution.

Based on real events, Argo tells the story of Tony Mendez, a CIA agent who proposes a preposterous idea: rescue six U.S. embassy employees who had found refuge at the Canadian ambassador’s house in Tehran after Iranian protestors had stormed the embassy’s gates and had taken the rest of the American employees hostage. Mendez, played by Ben Affleck, hatches a plan to fake a movie and travels to Iran on the pretense of scouting out shooting locations. Once there, he meets the six U.S. embassy employees and prepares them for their roles as members of his film crew in hopes of sneaking them out of Iran before their real identities are discovered.
