Already thinking about a vacation 12 days into the new year? You’re not alone. Thank goodness the Review blog is back live to help you escape this Monday morning. The past few weeks were difficult, right? We’re sorry, and promise we’re not going away again for a while. But you’re not here to listen to us, you’re here to find some of the best recent journalism in Canada. So let’s get to it.

Spring 2004 visual editor Jowita Bydlowska makes her first appearance on the Alumni Essentials this week (clap, clap) with her personal essay Men say I’m Crazy, hear me cry! We could offer a brief description of the emotional, confident and collected piece, but we couldn’t do any better than her hashtags.

Next, spring 2007 editor Julia Belluz is back for another round on here with her piece on academic publishing—one of the most ludicrous and genius businesses that exists.

We’d also like to congratulate winter 2011 editor Liam Casey who joins the Canadian Press as a reporter and editor. Although nothing can top his time here, this is still pretty good.

That’s it for this week’s edition. Do you have any work that should be showcased here? Email the blog editor.
